Celebrations

On Thursday 4 October 2001 three Artists were in the Forest to discuss their work with schools who took part in projects with the Artists.

On Friday 5 October Neville Gabie discussed his work on-site with visitors and Philip Reilly’s installation was at Beechenhurst Lodge.

Four singers from the Royal College of Music, London, performed on-site the Mendelssohn piece (in German) which inspired Reinhild Beuther’s Farewell to the Forest installation, 12 noon (sun at its highest point), 3pm, and 5.30pm (sunset).

PresentationIn the early evening those celebrating the completion of the Year of the Artist project included:

Rob Guest, Deputy Surveyor, Forest of Dean and vice-chairman of the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trust; Elspeth Orrom; Martin Orrom, Founder Chairman (1986-2000) of the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail and Trust (who was presented with drawings by Peter Randall-Page): Diana Organ, MP; Lesley Greene, Chair of the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trust; Nick Capaldi, Chief Executive, South West Arts.

On Saturday 6 October there was a showing of Stefan Gec’s film Monument at the Palace Cinema, Cinderford at 12 noon and an Artist’s talk by Philip Reilly at Beechenhust Lodge at 1.30pm, followed by a guided walk through the Forest.
