Jeremy Rees (1937-2003)

The Trustees of the Sculpture Trust wish to express their profound sadness at the unexpected death of Jeremy Rees on 11 December 2003.

Jeremy’s enthusiastic support for the initial concept emerging in 1982-3 ensured that Martin Orrom was able to commission, with Arnolfini, a group of exceptional artists, and create a sculpture trail of national significance. Jeremy became one of the founder group of Trustees. Characteristically, he gave since huge amounts of unsung time, devotion and care to maintain the original vision and quality.

Over the last three years Jeremy committed himself to nurturing the Trust’s partnership with the University of the West of England, developing collaborative research opportunities for artists working in the forest in new media. The creation of the Trust’s website, which is increasingly important for the profile of the Sculpture Trust, was due to Jeremy’s inspiration and hard work.

We will miss his thoughtful presence and his unique contribution.

We send our heartfelt condolences to his family.
