The year 2007 will see 21 years of the Trust & Trail activities and we plan to celebrate in style with a special midsummer event alongside new commissions.

The mix of temporary and permanent commissioning opens up new approaches for more socially engaged practice and we look forward to a rich and varied programme in coming years.
The Sculpture Trust considers this anniversary to be a key point in time in which to celebrate its past achievements and to strategically plan a new way of working which will reflect its significance in the rural arts ecology and importance to the identity of the Dean. We aim to do this by working with local communities, fundraising for both permanent and temporary works and creating a fantastic, accessible celebration at Beechenhurst on midsummers day 2007. It is a time to put the framework into place for future developments on the trail and beyond, with & for the next generation of Foresters.
Nelson set a precedent of visionary thinking in the Forest, when he commanded new oaks to be planted in preparation for shipbuilding for the next war in 200 years time. We wish to continue this approach and adopt the philosophy of the acorn-planter. The Sculpture Trail is not just for now, but for the future too, and we have the responsibility to ensure it maintains a high profile and shows work that reflects a visionary approach.
