I’ve stood under its shadow every year since – Pete Vigurs

I can vaguely remember the giant’s chair first going up, I was five at the time and it was during one of many family visits to the Forest. Every year from before I was born my family has come to holiday around the Wye Valley, and the forest walks were always an important feature, the giant’s chair cresting the hill was a welcome sight as we discovered from various angles and directions plus there was the added joy clambering up onto one of the arms and once the very top section too.

I’ve stood under its shadow every year since it was first erected, through my childhood, teenage years, early adulthood and now as a father myself has given me a real feeling of friendship with this creation. To hear of its coming disappearance from the forest landscape somehow makes the woods an emptier place.
