The Trust believes in the value of exploratory thinking and making that established the trail, and strives to nurture the relationship between the forest and the imagination. We would like to commission an artist/filmmaker to create a short film to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first conversations with artists at the site, whose proposals became the Sculpture Trail.

The key aims of the film are to :

  • Celebrate the uniqueness of the Forest of Dean and the Sculpture Trail.
  • Raise awareness of the artist-led nature of the commissions and the founding principles of collaboration and experimentation by the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail.
  • Share publicly why and how the Sculpture Trail came to be using the Trust’s extensive archive housed at the University of Gloucestershire

Why are we commissioning a film?
We want to promote the project to a broad general audience and the wider community of Forest of Dean. We want the film to play a part in raising the profile of the Sculpture Trail as a pioneering early supporter of visual and environmental art. We want the film to share the connections between the artists, community and the Forest of Dean and to encourage people to want to find out more and visit. By utilising our extensive archive we hope the film will unearth hidden stories of the Sculpture Trail not previously shared.
